Obituary

Donald P. Mulcahey, age 85, of Plymouth, formerly of W. Bridgewater and Canton, passed away peacefully at home April 27th. Born in Boston, he was raised in Jamaica Plain and graduated from Cathedral High School. He served his country as a Chaplain’s Assistant in the U.S. Air Force and while stationed at Itazuke Air Force base in Japan, he met his first wife, Gail Batchelder, with whom he would have six children. Settling in Canton, he worked full time for the U.S. Postal service while earning his BA in History at Boston College. Don began his career teaching mathematics at St. John the Evangelist School. After earning his MA in Educational Counselling, also from Boston College, he served the youth of the Canton Public School system for 27 years as an Adjustment Counsellor. Don also worked at the “The Drop In Center” for Canton High School students for several years. The impact Don had on the young people of Canton is immeasurable. Don earned both a private pilot’s license and sailing certificate and worked as a Hypnotherapist for several years, helping many to gain control over undesired behaviors.
In 1977 Donald married the great love of his life, Rita M. Kral. Thus began 43 years of incredible joy, companionship, happiness, humor and love they not only shared with each other, but with the many Mulcahey children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren. The honored patriarch of the family, Donald was the dearly loved father of Teresa Crawford and her husband, Howard, of Tucson, AZ, Kathleen Clark and her late husband, Richard, of Plymouth, Mark Mulcahey and his wife, Gail, of New Bedford, Michael Mulcahey and his wife, Alison, of Melrose, Patricia Glennon and her husband, Christopher, of Portland, OR, and Elizabeth West and her husband, Adam, of Coventry, RI. He was the brother of the late Robert Mulcahey and Carole Crawford. Don is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Thursday, April 29, from 4-7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, Canton, Friday, April 30, at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at New Calvary Cemetery, Boston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the incredibly wonderful Cranberry Hospice of Plymouth, 36 Cordage Park Circle Plymouth, MA 02360.
