Carlos Barrera Valdez, Jr., known as Chale, 74, departed this earthly life on April 27, 2021. His celebration of life will be held at his home, 795 W. B. Parks Road, Ty Ty, on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at 3:00 p.m.
Chale was born on March 21, 1947 in San Benito, Texas. He was the son of the late Carlos Valdez, Sr. and Hermila Barrera Valdez. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Hector Valdez. Chale served in the United States Army in Vietnam with the 25th Infantry. After the Army, he graduated from Texas A&I University in Kingville, Texas with a Political Science and History degree with a minor in Spanish. He absolutely loved cooking and entertaining for friends or family members for any occasion. He loved working in his blueberries, pecan trees and all his multiple gardens. He never met a stranger and loved all animals.
Chale is survived by his wife of 37 years, Frankie Walters Valdez; three children, Andrew Fountain and wife Kelley, Marianela Valdez Lerma and husband Alfredo, and Carlos Valdez III and wife Maria; six granddaughters, Kailey Fountain and husband Bryan Davis, Isabella Valdez, Sophia Valdez, Alessandra Lerma, Camila Lerma and Maria Urdaneta; one grandson, Jose Urdaneta; two great-grandsons, Brody Shroyer and Jameson Davis; two brothers, Mario Valdez and wife Rebecca, and Armando Valdez and wife Lori; three sisters, Belia Cantu and husband Fransisco, Elma Noyola and Mary Garcia; and many, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
