Obituary




After a lengthy illness, Cynthia M. Hemmings-Miller died peacefully on April 25, 2021, at UMASS Memorial Medical Center- Memorial Campus, at the age of 74. Born to parents, John and Gertrude Clarke in Westmoreland, Jamaica W.I. Cynthia migrated to the United States on April 17, 1979. She returned to Jamaica to marry Winston Miller on December 29, 1979. He joined her 18 months later in the United States. The union dissolved on October 15, 1990
Cynthia attended Sandilands High School, St James, Jamaica and later attended Quinsigamond Community College, Worcester, MA. Cynthia worked at Worcester State Hospital for 35 years and retired in December 31, 2012.
Cynthia attended John Street Baptist Church where she sung in the choir, attended Christian Women’s conferences, and volunteered in the Soup Kitchen. She also volunteered at the Elderly Center once per week. She enjoyed cooking and loved introducing Jamaican cuisine to her diverse group of friends and co-workers.
She is survived by her sister, Jean, her husband Maximo, and their daughter, Elu from Spencer; her nephew, Tony Stevens from Worcester ; Uncle, Ruben Kerr from New Jersey; Cousin, Josephine and Edwina Alvarez of Worcester and other cousins in New York, Jamaica and England.
Visitation is Friday, April 30th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Followed by her funeral service. The burial will be in the HOPE Cemetery.
The service will be officiated by Rev Dr. Roosevelt Hughes of John Street Baptist Church.
