Gerald “Jerry” Patrick Richard, Sr., Ret. LT RISP, 85, of Bushee Road, Swansea, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 25, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. He was the husband of the late Kathryn A. (Higgins) Richard and long time companion of Jean M. Serio.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Henry L. and Grace V. (Flynn) Richard. He was a resident of Swansea MA and Palm Bay, FL. He served in the US Army with the 82nd Airborne.
Mr. Richard retired as a Lieutenant in the RI State Police in 1982 after serving for 23 years. He later worked as a Deputy Federal Marshall for 16 years, retiring in 2000.
He was a faithful and devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and loved to watch all sports. He loved spending endless hours in his workshop. His most treasured pastime was spending time with his family and canine companions.
He is also survived by his children, Gerald P. Richard, Jr. and his wife Celeste of Coventry, Kerri L. Rice and her husband Brian of Warwick, Ryan P. Richard and his wife Lyn of Richmond, the late James H. Richard, and his five grandchildren, Amanda Lennon and her husband Corey, Tyler and Kyle Rice, Cameron and Zachary Richard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10am in St. Joseph Church, Danielson Pike at the corner of Rt 116, Scituate. Due to COVID regulations, seating will be limited. Face masks and social distancing required. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held Wednesday 4-7pm in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. COVID capacity restrictions will be observed.
