Carolyn Estelle McNeal Jones, 84, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021, at Legacy Village in Tifton, Georgia. Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2021, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals in Tifton with the Rev. Larry Layfield and the Rev. Aaron Frazier officiating. Mrs. Jones will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, in the Chapel of Bowen- Donaldson Home for Funerals from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Mrs. Jones’ sons-in-law, Ronny Yawn and Bob Stillerman; and her grandsons, Jamie Yawn, Jason Tincher, Joshua Tincher, and Sam Stillerman will serve as pallbearers.
Born June 11, 1936 in Jeff Davis County to the late Littleton M McNeal and Eunice Partin McNeal, she grew up in Nashville, attended Nashville High School, and married Clayton Jones, Jr. of Nashville. As a U.S. Air Force military spouse, Carolyn embarked on a 21-year journey to places such as Germany, Kentucky, Japan, and New Mexico. Settling back in Georgia, Carolyn and Clayton made a home in Sycamore, where they owned and operated Jones Grocery for thirteen years. Carolyn also worked in the deli at Winn Dixie in Tifton, as well as a private catering service.
Afterward, she worked for the food service program for Head Start. Carolyn was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Clayton Jones, Jr., granddaughter Carol Howlett, and her siblings, Ola Jean Ross, Michael McNeal, and Irene McNeal Crowley.
She is survived by her six children: Sandra K. Tincher of Winder, Lynne C. Yawn of Tifton, Michael C. Jones of Crawfordville, Florida, Trina M. Jones of Sycamore, Terry M. Tanner of Acworth, and Mary Ann Stillerman of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Jamie Yawn, Jason Tincher, Jennifer Yawn, Joshua C. Tincher, Carson Jones, and Sam Stillerman; and eight great-grandchildren, Amanda Parrish, Tristan Yawn, Brandon Parrish, Gabriel Tincher, Rebecca Tincher, Bella Yawn, Kylee Jones, and Tommie Tincher; and great-great granddaughter, Amethyst Yawn.
The oldest of six, Carolyn is also survived by two sisters, Margaret Jones of Lenox and Rachel Worley of Griffin.
