Michael Francis “Frank” Finn, 74, of Medfield, formerly of West Roxbury, passed away on April 22, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a heroic battle with cancer.
Frank was born in Caheragh, County Cork, Ireland on Sept. 9, 1946, son of the late Cornelius and Hanna (O’Sullivan) Finn. He immigrated to Boston in 1966 at 19, where he was a sprinkler fitter by trade and co-owner of Norwood Fire Protection. Proud of his Irish heritage, Frank spent his younger years playing Gaelic football representing his beloved Cork. He was also proud of his adopted country and became a U.S. citizen in 1996.
In more recent years, Frank devoted himself to family. He especially loved to babysit his cherished grandchildren.
Frank was the consummate gentleman, respectful and kind to all who crossed his path. He was renowned for his wit and was sure to put a smile on the face of anyone in his company. Most importantly, Frank felt blessed by his life and enjoyed every day he had to the fullest.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of more than 50 years Ellen “Helen” (Kane), devoted daughters Josephine Finn and Teresa Finn, and grandchildren and namesakes Hanna Frances and Ronan Michael. Also survived by siblings Mary Commane of Medfield, John Finn of Dover, Christopher Finn of Norfolk, and Kathleen O’Driscoll and Bernadette O’Grady of County Cork, Ireland, as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. In addition to his parents, predeceased by brothers Thomas and Patrick.
Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury on Thursday, April 29 at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Holy Name Church at 11 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday, April 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude. org.
