CENTER HARBOR---- Kathleen Emerson Viens, passed away in her Center Harbor, NH, home on Sunday, April 18, 2021. Kathy's family members were with her at the time of her passing; she was 71.
Kathy was born on July 8, 1949, in Melrose, MA, to Walter and Greta Emerson. Kathy often said that she had a wonderful upbringing and a perfect 50's childhood. She frequently reminisced about the good times with her family and friends at Merrymeeting Lake while growing up.
Kathy married her beloved husband, Harry Viens, in 1975, after meeting him in a Cambridge bar a year earlier while wearing one of her more original outfits; a halter top over a turtleneck.
Kathy was an English teacher for several years, and earned her Master's Degree becoming a reading specialist. Kathy enjoyed sharing her love of reading and playing Scrabble with her students.
Kathy and Harry lived in New Hartford, CT, for 33 years, where they raised their two children. Kathy retired in 2008, at which point she and Harry relocated to Center Harbor, NH, where she pursued personal interests in Lyme prevention, such as a head-to-toe, all-white, anti-tick mowing suit.
Friends and family will remember Kathy for many things, among them her beautiful laughter, her Scrabble prowess, her original fashion sense, her ability to bring people together, her willingness to always speak her mind, her strength, and most of all, her unselfish love.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Harry; a son, Chris Viens; a daughter, Jill McCulley; five granddaughters, Sophia, Ailsa, Evelyn, Hazel, and Tess; and two sisters, Gretchen Becker and Susan Smith.
Private services will be held to honor Kathy.
