WEBSTER -Judith E. (Canty) Martinek, 77, died Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at home with family at her side.
She leaves a daughter, Debbie A. Martinek of North Grosvenordale, CT; a son, Gary P. Martinek and his wife Maggie of Ellicott City, MD; 4 grandchildren, Jessica Cakmakli and her husband Guney of Elkridge, MD, Captain Scott Guerin with the United States Air Force and his wife Kaylie of Panama City, FL, Krystina Martinek and her fiancé Bobby Antis of Slykesville, MD, and Keith Guerin and his fiancée Victoria Vieira of Dartmouth, MA; 3 great-grandsons, Kyler, Brayden and Landon; 2 brothers, Gerald J. Canty, Jr. of Webster and Thomas Canty and his wife Karen of Deltona, FL; a lifelong friend, Constance Favreau of Dudley; nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by a brother Richard Canty.
She was born on March 25, 1944 in Webster, the daughter of Gerald J. Canty, Sr. and Theresa L. (Pepka) Canty and lived here all her life. She graduated from Bartlett High School in 1961 where she was a member of the student council and a majorette. She then attended Worcester School of Business Science.
She first worked at the American Optical Company in Southbridge. For 39 years, she was a secretary in the nursing office and then in the physical therapy department at the former Hubbard Regional Hospital, retiring in 2009.
Judy was a communicant of Saint Louis Church and a member of the Saint Louis League of Catholic Women. She belonged to the Serra Club of S. Worcester County for many years and once served on its board of directors.
She was a member of the Harrington Hospital Auxiliary. She volunteered helping at bingo at 2 local nursing homes, at the Bread of Life kitchen, and also weekly at Hubbard Regional Hospital after she retired.
She enjoyed class luncheons with friends, reading and most of all spending time with friends and her family.
Her funeral will be held Monday, April 26, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be in Saint Anthony’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, April 25, in the funeral home, with the Serra Club of Southern Worcester County offering a prayer service at 7:30 PM. Current health guidelines will be in place and everyone is required to wear a mask.
