Obituary

WHITMAN---CAROL JANICE (McPATE) HEDIN 78 OF WHITMAN, PASSED AWAY SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2021 FROM FAILING HEALTH ISSUES AT WINGATE SILVERLAKE, KINGSTON, MA. SHE WAS THE LOVING DEVOTED WIFE OF THE LATE RONALD D. HEDIN FOR 48 YEARS.

BORN IN QUINCY,MA SEPTEMBER 12, 1942, SHE LIVED MOST OF HER ADULT LIFE IN WHITMAN. SHE WAS THE DAUGHTER OF THE LATE RICHARD E. McPATE AND RITA L. (BRODEUR) McPATE. SHE WAS A GRADUATE OF THE WHITMAN SCHOOL SYSTEMS.

SHE HAD A VERY SUCCESSFUL CAREER IN THE WORLD OF BANKING. FOR MANY YEARS SHE WAS THE BRANCH MANAGER OF MUTUAL FEDERAL SAVINGS BANK IN CARVER, MA.

CAROL LOVED TO GO TO ANTIQUING, PLAY BINGO AND TAKE TRIPS WITH HER SIBLINGS AND FRIENDS TO FOXWOODS CASINO AND LAS VEGAS. SHE LOVED HER TRIPS TO THE MUSIC CIRCUS TO SEE HER TWO MOST FAVORITE SINGERS, KENNY RODGERS AND JOHNNY MATHIS.

SHE ALSO LOVED HER PETS BOTH DOGS AND CATS AND SUPPORTED A LOCAL SHELTER FINANCIALLY AS WELL AS THROUGH ADOPTION.

CAROL WAS A LOVING WIFE, MOTHER, DAUGHTER, SISTER, AUNT, GRANDMOTHER , MOTHER-IN-LAW AND FRIEND TO MANY. SHE GAVE EVERTHING SHE HAD TO PROVIDING FOR THEIR NEEDS. SHE WILL BE MISSED BEYOND WORDS. SHE LEFT A LEGACY OF LOVE THAT WE WERE ALL FORTUNATE TO INHERIT.

SHE HAD TWO CHILDREN, DEBORAH A. WHO PREDECEASED HER IN 2009 AND A SON THOMAS. DEBORAH HAD THREE CHILDREN VICTORIA, AND TWIN GIRLS ALEXANDRA AND ELIZABETH HARBESTER OF PLYMPTON, MA. THOMAS ALSO HAD THREE CHILDREN, TWINS BOYS, THOMAS AND PAUL AND ROSE OF MILTON, MA. .

SHE RETIRED AT 65 AND WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO MANY HAPPY RETIREMENT YEARS WHEN SHE SUDDENLY LOST BOTH HER HUSBAND, RONALD AND HER DAUGHTER DEBORAH TO CANCER. THROUGH HER GREAT DETERMINATION AND LOVE FOR HER FAMILY, SHE GATHERED HER STRENGTH AND LEGALLY BECAME THE GUARDIAN OF DEBORAH’S THREE YOUNG CHILDREN. SHE PROVIDED THEM WITH A HOME AND RAISED THEM BY HERSELF UNTIL HER HEALTH WOULD NO LONGER PERMIT HER TO DO SO.

SHE ALSO LEAVES BEHIND A BROTHER, ROBERT G. MCPATE AND HIS WIFE ANN MARIE (NELSON) OF PUNTA GORDA, FLORIDA, A SISTER, DIANE B. MCPATE AND HER LIFE PARTNER CAROL A. DECOSTE OF LACONIA, NEW HAMPSHIRE, A SISTER-IN-LAW MARYJANE (RICKER) HARRIS OF FORT MEYERS, FLORIDA, A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW MARY (HEDIN) VAUGHN OF MILTON, MANY NIECES, NEPHEWS, COUSINS AND LIFE LONG FRIENDS, ESPECIALLY EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBERS, NED AND KATHY CONDON, HER NEIGHBORS FOR OVER 45 YEARS . SHE WAS PREDECEASED BY A BROTHER RICHARD J. OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA.

DUE TO COVID CONDITIONS, HER BURIAL WAS PRIVATE IN THE ST. JAMES CEMETERY, WHITMAN, MA
