John Michael "Mike" Coale, 74, of Daleville died at his residence on April 19, 2021 after an extended illness.
He was born, December 9, 1946, in Anderson, the son of John Cecil and Alice Pauline (Bailey) Coale.
He served in the United States Army.
Mike earned an associate degree at I.U. Kokomo in 1983. He worked as a machine repairman for Delco Remy 34 years before retiring in 1999. He was a member of Anderson First United Methodist Church, enjoyed motorcycles, hot rods and antique engines. He served as president, vice president and bargaining chairman of United Auto Workers Local 662. He was a member of United Way and Leadership Academy; served on the Board of Works for the City of Anderson; Paramount Theater, Alternate Committeeman; Big Brother and Sisters; many other community and union functions.
Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce A. (Barton) Coale of Daleville, whom he married September 7, 1968 in Anderson; his son, John Michael (Leslie) Coale II; six grandchildren, John Michael Coale III; Jayden D. Coale, Autumn (Jason) Legg, Tiffany Legg, Jameson Coale and Jase Cram; eight great-grandchildren, Leiha Barker, Emma Barker, Josiah, Malli, Aleanna, Xavier, Mason and Conor; two siblings, Philip (Sueann) Coale and Paula Coale; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Moe Titis, Ross Silvey and Larry Davis; fur friends, Pickles and Snowy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Paula Ann Coale-Gore; brother, David Coale; aunts and uncles and grandparents.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at East Maplewood Cemetery with Pastor Ned Clark officiating.
