Marjorie Kimball, 88, of Stonington died Monday, April 19, 2021 at Apple Rehab Mystic surrounded by her family. She is predeceased by her husband of 25 years, Donald A. Kimball who died in 2016.
Marge was born on January 27, 1933, to the late Peter and Lena (Quagliaroli) Draghi. She grew up in Wallingford with her two older sisters, Alice Sabo and the late Rita Hunter. She attended parochial school, graduated from Lyman Hall High School and completed two years of study at a school of business. She worked at Revere until she married in 1953 and lived in Wallingford until her move to Stonington in 1974. Marge was a member of the Mystic Women’s Club and was an active volunteer at Pequotsepos Nature Center and her church. In the 1980’s she started her own business, the Rocking Horse Shop, located in downtown Mystic and later moved the shop to Olde Mistick Village. Marge has always enjoyed knitting, quilting and other needlework, gardening, puzzles and going to the theater. She was an avid UCONN basketball fan. In her younger days, she played tennis and square danced and up until a year ago, was active on the local bowling team. She traveled extensively seeing many different countries and hiking many national parks. Her favorite place to vacation was in Aruba for two weeks every year for over 20 years. She spent her summers at the family cottage on Bashan Lake in East Haddam.
Marge is survived by her four children from her first marriage to Robert Valenti, Beth (Bill) Goodwin, Cheryl (Tom) Quirk, Jean (Bruce) Morrow, Robert (Deborah) Valenti, and three stepchildren Bradford Kimball, Jeffrey Kimball (Vicki), and Kristen (John) Defilippo. She was blessed with fourteen grandchildren, six step grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren (one more on the way). She is also survived by Tigger, her big orange cat and faithful companion since Don’s death.
Her family will greet relatives and friends today, Friday, April 23, from 5 to 8pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Graveside Service will be held tomorrow, Saturday, April 24, at 11:00am at the Stonington Cemetery on Route One in Stonington.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Kimball Fund at the First United Methodist Church, 23 Willow Street, Mystic CT, which benefits the arts and local charities or to Muscular Dystrophy or the American Heart Association.
