Karen Waskiel, 74, of North Scituate, passed away peacefully at Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Intake Center on Thursday April 15th surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Stanley A. Waskiel, Sr.
She was born in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ann ( Dewolf ) Crowell and was also predeceased in death by her three sisters Patricia, Mildred and Bertha and infant son Stephen.
Karen’s greatest joy in life was spending time with and spoiling her nine grandchildren Patricia, Adam and his wife Alexandrea, William, Hannah and her husband Tyler, Jacob, Naomi, Malachi, Jeremiah and Haddie. However, she would tell you they were never spoiled, just “loved more than the average child.” Over the years she and her husband took in and helped many people. All were welcome and many stayed and are part of the family today.
Karen loved animals and was known for feeding many a stray cat and even the neighborhood squirrels. One of her greatest joys near the end of her life was watching the birds from her bed and she kept her son busy sending him for more bird seed.
Karen was proud of her volunteer work with Girl Scouts. Although her main career was a stay-at-home wife and mother, she also enjoyed working as an activity assistant in her later years at Greenville Health and Rehabilitation.
She was so proud of her two daughters for becoming registered nurses and loved seeing her son take over the family business.
She is survived by her children Stanley A. Waskiel, Jr. and his wife Robin of Smithfield, Karen-Ann Lima of Smithfield, Stacy L. Sherring of North Scituate and Philip C. Smith and his wife Jamy of East Providence. She is also survived by her beloved dogs Rascal and Dempsey and Fred the cat, her true Golden Child.
