Giuseppa (Turco) Altovino, age 88, of Billerica passed away on Tuesday, April 13. Born and raised in Riesi, Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Leopoldo and Giuseppa (Carlino) Turco. Giuseppa was employed for many years as a seamstress. She immigrated to the US in 1972, living first in Boston’s North end before moving to Medford in 1976. Giuseppa settled in Billerica 15 years ago. She loved bowling, playing Bingo, and watching Price-is-Right, and also enjoyed sewing and cooking for family and friends
Giuseppa was the devoted mother of Josephine Altovino of Methuen, Salvatore Altovino and his wife Kim of Foxboro, Leo Altovino and his wife Linda of Tewksbury, and Joanne Sprague and her husband George of Billerica. She was the loving grandmother of Natasha Sotomayor of Austria, Jennifer Sotomayor of Amesbury, Jason and Brenda Altovino of Maine, Alessandra Altovino of Tewksbury, Christopher and Emily Altovino of Portland, Samantha Freddette and her husband Chris of Lebanon, Maine, and Mathew and Jonathon Sprague of Billerica, and the loving great grandmother of Daunte, Jyrzre, Cody, Izzeck, Myles and Kaden. Giuseppa was the dear sister of Enzina Paresi and her husband Rafaelle, Teresa Baglio and her husband Guiseppe, Iolanda Rastelli and her husband Mario, Concetta Schiacchitano and her husband Gianfranco, Angela Cosso and her husband Mario, all of Italy, and Leopoldo Turco and his wife Patricia, Adelina Palermo and her husband Charles, Gaetano Turco and his wife Katia, Francesca Romano and her husband Mario, and Giuseppe Turco, all living in the US. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner St., Medford, on Saturday, April 17th at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with family at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford from 9 through 10:30 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Social distancing protocols will be observed throughout the services. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Giuseppa’s name to Beth Israel Lahey Health at Home Hospice, Gift Processing Center, 41 Mall Road, Burlington, MA, 01805.
