FALL RIVER – Faye H. Berube passed away on April 9, 2021 at age 94. Born and raised in South Barre, VT, Faye lived in Fall River following her marriage to recently deceased husband of 66 years, Edmond E Berube. Faye was the daughter of Otto George and Lucy (Willett) George. As the first blind student to graduate from Middlebury College, Faye studied Sociology where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude in 1950. Faye worked as a counselor for the MA Commission for the Blind for 31 years. In a ceremony for the top ten state employees of 1992, then-Gov. Weld recognized her for her “leadership and management skills as supervisor of New Bedford region Rehabilitation Teaching Program enabling the blind to achieve levels of independence once thought impossible.” Faye was a true trailblazer and role model. Her priorities were her family (including three Seeing Eye dogs) and career. She enjoyed emailing family and friends, knitting and was a keen reader. Her humor, courage and love will be greatly missed.
She is predeceased by her parents, and seven siblings: Stevie, Vernon, Rupert, and Russell George, Gwendolyn Minoli, Priscilla Paquet, and Ramona Boulanger. She is survived by daughter Donna Berube, a registered nurse in Fall River; son and daughter-in-law RADM Raymond E. Berube SC USN (ret) and Mary who live in Coronado, CA, brother Donald F. George of Barre, VT, as well as her grandchildren: Ann (Berube) and husband David Ballard of Fall River; Paige Berube of San Diego, CA., Peter Berube of La Jolla, CA.; and great-grandchild Bear Thomas Ballard.
Following cremation, a Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, May 7th in St. Joseph’s Church, 1335 N. Main St., Fall River at 10:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
