Michael R. ‘Spike’ Mello, 68 of Lowell, passed away peacefully with his daughter by his side at High Pointe Hospice House, nestled in the woods that he loved so much, after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born on June 11, 1952 in Lowell, the 3rd son of the late Frank E. Mello, Jr. and the late Mildred R. (Joyce) Mello. He was raised in Lowell, where he attended the area schools. He worked as a flooring installer and project manager for many years before opening a garage called Main Street Auto in Townsend.
Spike was an avid photographer and loved canoeing, fishing, hunting, and working on cars. He was a proud member of the NRA and former member of Tynsgboro Sportsmen Club. Above all else, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and friends, especially when camping.
Spike is survived by his daughter, Joya Trelegan and her husband, Greg of Chelmsford; his son, Forrest Mello of Lowell; his two grandchildren, Logan Champagne and Charlotte Trelegan both of Chelmsford. He is also survived by his siblings, David Mello of NH, and Jeanne Gardner and her husband, Tom of NH; his nieces and nephews, David Mello Jr, Kerry Mello, Deborah Mello, and Donnie Mello Jr; his former wife and friend, Judith E. (Bertos) Mello; and his friends Daniel, Donna and Tim Champagne, Phillip and Estelle Chaput, all of Lowell and Jimmy Dunleavy of Arizona, and Mike Champagne.
He was also predeceased by his brother Donald Mello a month ago, along with his friends of many years: Dennis Dunleavy, Paul Champagne, Maureen Champagne, and Susan and Guy Michacyzk.
