Harry Eugene Young, age 82 of Attleboro, formerly of Brockton, died Thursday April 1, 2021 at his home after a period of failing health. He was the devoted husband of Paulette (Leveille) Young for 60 years. Gene was born and raised in Brockton a son of the late Harry W. and Marguerite (O’Shea) Young and attended Brockton schools.
Gene had worked for the City of Brockton for twenty years in the Parks and Refuse Departments. He enjoyed playing golf and followed all the big players for years. Gene loved long rides with his wife, traveling to New Hampshire and camping with his family.
Gene was a longtime member of the Assembly of God Church in Brockton and Attleboro. He sang in the choir and was in the annual Easter Passion play. He also had a great sense of humor and was always ready with a joke or pun.
Gene was also passionate about 1950’s music and knew the names of all the bands and dates of songs. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren and all their successes.
In addition to his wife Paulette, Gene is survived by his children Cheryl Kennedy and her husband John of Mashpee, Robin Katcharian and her husband Leon of East Bridgewater, Darren Young and his wife Rachel of Brockton, Dennis Young of Attleboro and the late Doreen Young, He also leaves 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Gene was the brother of Billy Young and his wife Kathy of Brockton, Bob Young and his wife Gloria of Tennessee, Helen Mellman of Plymouth and Janet Camp of Maryland.
Visitation will be held at the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (rte.123) Brockton on Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 4-7pm with prayers at 6:30. Burial in Melrose Cemetery at a later date.
