Joseph V. Mello, 98, of Fall River, formerly of Westport, passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at home. He was husband of the late Helen (Perry) Mello.
Born in Fall River, son of the late Bento V. Mello, Sr. and the late Marianna (Tavares) Mello, he had lived in Westport for most of his life. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the United States Army. Prior to retirement, he worked for the former Hoyt Manufacturing in Westport. Mr. Mello was a Communicant of St. George Church, Westport. He was a member of the P.A.C.L. Westport Council. He enjoyed fishing, trips to the casino, playing cards and golfing.
Survivors include 2 daughters: Patricia A. Collins of Fall River and Rosemary Estrella of Fall River; a brother: John V. Mello of Westport; 4 grandchildren: Linda, Christopher, Derek and Kraig; several great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late Mary Morel, Deolinda Nadeau, Manuel Mello, Bento V. Mello and Gertrude Lima.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, April 6, 2021 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. George Church, Westport at 10 A.M.
Calling hours Monday 5 - 7 P.M.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
