Joseph Federico passed away peacefully at home in the company of his loving family on Friday, March 26, 2021. He was 87. Born and raised in Pettorano sul Gizio, Abruzzo, Italy, he was the son of the late Antonio and Marianna (DeSantis) Federico.
Joseph came to the United States in the early 1950's and lived in Boston's North End before settling in Medford. He served in the US Army during the early period of the Vietnam War. Until he retired Joe owned and operated a heavy construction company, JF Construction, which specialized in utilities work. He was a proud member of Local 4, Operating Engineers Union. He and his wife Evelyn owned and operated a thoroughbred horse farm in Duanesburg, NY, near Saratoga. Their horses raced primarily at Suffolk Downs and Rockingham Park. Joe was devoted to his family and friends and enjoyed keeping a beautiful garden at his Medford home.
The beloved husband of Evelyn (O'Connor) Federico, Joseph was the devoted father of Gabriel Federico and his wife Michele of Wakefield, Anthony Federico and his wife Valerie of Burlington, and step-father of Mark Luongo and his wife Cheryl of Tewksbury. He was a loving grandfather of Genna, David, Anthony, Daniel, Justin, Jason, Leah Malian and her husband Andrew. Joseph was the brother of Armando Federico and his wife Rina of Stoneham and uncle to Anna Maria and Tony. He was also the loving brother in law of the late Remo Scarfo and his surviving wife, Beverly of Burlington.
Joseph’s funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main St. Medford on Tuesday, April 6th at 10:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church 118 High St. Medford at 11:30 AM. Services will conclude with entombment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Relatives and friends are kindly invited and may visit with the family at the funeral home on Monday April 5th from 4 - 7 PM.
