William F. (“Billy”) O’Connor III, 67, of Canton, formerly of Dennis, passed away Monday, March 29, at his home after a six-month, courageous battle with cancer.
The son of the late William F. O’Connor Jr. and Mary (Russell) O’Connor, he was born in Providence, RI and spent his youth in Somerset before moving to Dennis in the late 80s.
Billy loved the ocean and was passionate about sports. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Giants and played football and baseball at Somerset High School. He loved all genres of music and was a big fan of the Eagles, Jackson Browne and Neil Young. Over the years he attended many concerts with his family and friends.
Billy retired from Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority in 2017 after nearly 12 years of service. Prior to that he worked for the VNA in the 90s and was a retired member of Carpenters Local Union 33 in Boston.
Those who knew him will remember Billy’s sweet smile, his sparkling blue eyes, his quick wit and gift of repartee.
More importantly, they will remember his kindness, his compassion and the courage he showed during the last several months of his life.
Billy is survived by his three daughters: Aimee O’Connor of Rhode Island, Addie O’Connor of Orleans and Elsa O’Connor of Dennis; his four sisters: Beth Erickson of Canton, Ellen Calamis of Narragansett, RI, Riley O’Connor of Norwich, VT, and Ann O’Connor of North Attleboro. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles: Margaret Riley of Kingston, John O’Connor of Centerville, and Helen and Stephen Henley of Alexandria, Virginia. He will be missed by his many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Courtney and Emanuel for their compassionate care during a very difficult time.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Donations in Billy’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
