Obituary

Cynthia C. (Cox) Brown, 78, of Whitman passed away peacefully on March 26 following a brief illness. She grew up in Abington but resided for most of her life in Whitman.

Born on February 2, 1943, Cindy was the daughter of the late Louis O. and Ethel M. (Leary) Cox. She was preceded in death by her brother Richard N. Cox, who passed away only a few months ago, and by her late sister Lois E. (Cox) Ferrara.

Cynthia is survived by her three children: Mark W. Brown of Carver, and his wife Mary Anne; Richard D. Brown of Plainville, and his wife Clare; and Deborah J. Bennett of Hull, and her husband Matthew. She was also the mother-in-law of the late Karen Brown of Taunton. She leaves seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was also the longtime companion of the late Peter Valle and the devoted friend of Joyce Lawson.

She was a longtime school bus driver for the Town of Whitman in the 1960s and 1970s, a machine operator for USM (the Shank Shop), an American Red Cross phlebotomist and an Avon representative. She was also a Host Camper at Wampatuck State Park for several years.

Known affectionately as “The Ace,” Cindi was passionate about travel, especially cruises and long car rides.

She enjoyed spending time at the Cape Cod Canal, Nantasket Beach and the Hanson Senior Center. She loved music, Friday night Karaoke and candlepin bowling.

Visiting hours will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on March 31 at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) in Whitman. A family reception will be held the following week.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Massachusetts or the American Red Cross.
