Gwendolyn Nan Barnes Eason, 83, of Tifton passed away peacefully Friday, March 26, 2021, at the Rehabilitation of South Georgia in Tifton, where she had resided for the past ten weeks. She was surrounded by her children and grandchildren. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mrs. Eason at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2021, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. The Rev. William A. “Tony” Roberts will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 29, 2021, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. COVID-19 guidelines will be followed during the visitation and the graveside funeral service.
Mrs. Eason’s grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Born March 4, 1938 in Bakersfield, California, Mrs. Eason was the daughter of the late Carson Albert Barnes and Edith Mamie Crawford Barnes. Her family moved back to Tifton in 1943 when she was approximately six years of age and she grew up in Tifton. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Carson Barnes; her sister, Edith Carol Barnes; and her husband and the love of her life, James Edward Eason, who was born and raised in Tifton and who she married on June 22, 1956. She traveled with her spouse and children, as he served in the United States Air Force for 22. Years. They retired back to Tifton in 1975. She was a homemaker and a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church in Enigma.
Mrs. Eason is survived by her son, Edward Eason (Kimberly Allison) of Albany; her son, J. Christopher Eason of Warner Robins; her daughter and son-in-law, Nannette and Ricky Harris of Omega; her daughter and son-in-law, Edith and Jimmy Roberts of Enigma; her daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Chris Mashburn of Tifton; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and eleven great-great grandchildren.
