King, Robert Perry of Wellesley formerly of Needham, March 25, 2021. Beloved husband of Margaret (Bayliss) King. Devoted father of Deborah Haberman and her husband Arthur of Sudbury and Robin Forte and her husband David of Framingham. Loving grandfather of Jackie, Rachel, Sarah, Lauren, Anna and the late Max Haberman. Great-grandfather of Elyjah and Vinny.
After graduating from Needham High School in 1955, Bob went to work at the Highland Rug Mart in Needham Heights learning the carpet and flooring trades. Later he opened his own carpet and installation business known as King Carpets of Wellesley. He never needed to advertise. Word of mouth from satisfied customers kept him busy 6 days a week. Working mostly in Wellesley, he was a frequent patron of both The Linden Deli and Captain Mardens.
His real passion was gardening. He was a director of The Rhododendron Society and president of the Homoracalis Society Region 4, hybridizing day lilies at the Waltham Field Station where he rented greenhouse space. He also was a member of both the Hosta Society and The Small Conifer Society. His gardens in Wellesley were on tour every spring.
A private funeral service will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. Wellesley on Monday, March 29, at 1pm followed by a private interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley.
