To the man known as ‘Pop’s’!
Strozia J. Davis, 95, of Irwinville, Georgia, died Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at his residence.
Graveside services will be 4 PM, Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Irwinville Cemetery, with the Rev. Rex Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:30 Saturday at the funeral home in Fitzgerald. They encourage you to dress casually as Pops would know you.
Mr. Davis was born February 23, 1926, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Thomas Watson & Maggie Lee Powell Davis. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II, stationed aboard the USS Roosevelt. He worked for Rainbow Manufacturing, Paulk Implement, and was the plant manager for KMC. He formerly owned the Irwinville Store and the Mystic Superette as well as a store in Fitzgerald. He loved to fish and he loved to dance. He enjoyed riding his buggy with his dogs. Mr. Davis loved to entertain and was a gracious host, especially when he fried fish at the cabin. He attended Irwinville United Methodist Church and will be remembered for his kind and generous heart.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Ann Mercer Davis of Ocilla; daughter, Kim Davis Nolen & John of Peachtree City; step-son, Todd Whitley & Janicea of Kathleen; grandchildren: Madeline Nolen, Sydney Nolen, Max Nolen, Kline Whitley & Elly, Krista Whitley Hodges & David, Terri Davis Creech & Jeff, and James “Bubba” Davis; great-grandchildren: Hallie Rae Hodges, B.J. Creech, Troy Creech, James Davis, and Justin Davis; great-great-grandchildren: Jackson Creech, Violet Davis, and Reagan Davis; and a brother, Ralph Davis & Sue of Huntsville, Alabama. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Sue Alexander Davis; a son, James Wiley “Jimmy” Davis; brothers: Elzie Davis, who died as an infant, Clarence Davis, and Eschol Lee Davis, Sr.; and three sisters: Omie Crowe, Leonis Tomberlin and Lurene Parrish.
