John F. Flynn, Jr., 87, of New Bedford, formerly of Portsmouth, RI, passed away suddenly at home on Thursday March 18, 2021. He was the husband of the late Geraldine M. (Medeiros) Flynn.
Born and raised in Fall River, the son of the late John F. and Mabel (Cummings) Flynn, he lived in Portsmouth for 60 years until moving to New Bedford several months ago.
Mr. Flynn was formerly employed as an engineer manager in the sonar division of Raytheon in Portsmouth until his retirement.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of the Portsmouth Senior Citizens. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling and taking bus trips.
He is survived by three sons, Sean W. Flynn and his wife Barbara, Michael J. Flynn and his partner John Rondina, and Patrick T. Flynn and his wife Diane; his sister, Agnes Vachon; his companion, Marilyn Trigueiro; and two grandchildren, Stephanie Costa and her husband Brian, and Kevin Flynn.
His visitation will be held on Sunday March 28, 2021 from 5-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by a prayer service at 7 PM. A private family burial will take place at Newport Memorial Park in Middletown, RI.
