Laurence J. Smith, 67, of Abington, Massachusetts died on March 23, 2021, surrounded by family.
Larry was born on May 12, 1953 in Arlington, Massachusetts. He is the second son of Laurence Smith and Edith (Baldwin) Smith.
He grew up in Holbrook, Massachusetts, graduated from Holbrook High School, and graduated Blue Hills Community College with an Electrical Science Associates Degree. He was a licensed electrician for 45 years, working for various private electricians. He retired from the LifeCare Center Nursing Home, in Scituate Ma., after 24 years as the Director of Maintenance.
Larry was a simple man and loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed camping, playing horseshoes, and sitting by the fire with his friends and family. He was happiest spending his days on the water, fishing on his boat. He was always up for an adventure. His greatest accomplishments were his family and his lifelong friendships.
He was the beloved husband of Marcia (Morris) Smith of 42 years. He leaves behind two sisters, Lorraine Orth of Bridgewater and Judy Smith of Holbrook (Canton). His brother Frank Smith and his wife Jeannie Smith of Wakefield. He was a loving father to his three children, his son Christopher Smith and his wife Kelly Smith of Halifax, daughter Amy Dembek and her husband Joel Dembek, and daughter Katie Cook and her husband Tony Cook of Maryland. He was an adoring Papa to his seven grandchildren, Camren, Kory, Jaxson, Kian, Kendall, Oliver and late grandson Christian. He will be profoundly missed by all others, including nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and coworkers.
His funeral service will be held Saturday March 27 at 10:00 AM in Saint Mary’s Church, Hanover. Visiting hours will be held on Friday March 26 from 5:00-8:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58@ the rotary) Whitman.
