New Bedford – Maria Fatima (Ferreira) Mota, age 71, of New Bedford passed away after a long terminal illness on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Fernando Mota, with whom she shared 47 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in St. Michael, Azores she was the daughter of the late Manuel Ferreira and Maria (deLurdes) Ferreira. Maria had worked as an aide at a local day care center.
She loved to cook, loved being around her family and was happiest when celebrating family and friend’s birthdays and holidays. Maria was such a kind and compassionate woman, she always worried about everyone else before herself and her beautiful smile always lit up the room.
Maria is survived by her husband, Fernando Mota; her children Michael Mota and his fiancé Jessica Ducy and Michelle DaSilva and her late husband Arlindo “Eddie” DaSilva and their dog, Patch; grandchildren, Ivan Fernando Mota, Kevin Baez and Jaxen Mota; siblings, Manuel Ferreira and his wife Carminha, Leonor Mota and her husband Joao, Lionilde Ferreira Amaral and her husband Julio, Carmelia Jesus Ferreira and Mario Jorge Ferreira; as well as several nieces and nephews of Canada and Portugal.
Maria’s visiting hours will be held on Friday evening, March 26, 2021 from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will take place Saturday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can kindly be made in Maria’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
All attendees are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering at all times, to social distance 6 feet and to please refrain from any close physical contact. Attendance in the funeral home will be limited in order to meet the mandated capacity restrictions and could result with a wait time outside of the funeral home.
