Edith S. Vierra, 90
Dateline: Mansfield, MA
Edith S. (Cardinute) Vierra, age 90, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 22, 2021, after a long and hard-fought battle against Covid-19. She was the beloved wife of the late Edmund J. Vierra, to whom she was wed for fifty-eight years at the time of his death in 2013.
Born in Mansfield, MA on March 8, 1931, she was a loving daughter of the late Charles and Agnes (Mennelo) Cardinute.
Edie grew up in town and was a 1949 graduate of Mansfield High School. Prior to retiring, she had worked at various companies, including as a mailroom worker at the Kendall Company in Mansfield.
Mrs. Vierra was a lifelong communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield and a member of the Catholic Women’s Club. She enjoyed gardening, trips with her late husband and will always be remembered for her exceptional cooking skills.
Edie was well loved by her family and friends. She had the gift of gab and managed to strike up a conversation easily. She enjoyed long walks with a family dog or a close friend, cooking, gardening and trips with her late husband.
As she slipped into Alzheimer’s over time, she became more nostalgic for her younger years spent with her five siblings and their extended families. She found comfort in the memory care community at Brookdale of Attleboro where it became her daily routine to say goodbye to all the other residents in preparation for “tomorrow” when she would feel better and go back home as things once were. Now, she is finally at home in heaven watching over all of us and reminding her children to zipper up their jackets before they catch a cold.
She is survived by her devoted children: Leslie Hall and her husband Dana of Cranberry Lake, New York, Mark Vierra of Studio City, California and Stephen Vierra of Forestdale. She was the cherished grandmother of Zachary Vierra of Rutherford, New Jersey, William Peterson and his wife Ksana of Salem and the great grandmother of Theodore Peterson and Valentina “Lena” Peterson. She was the dear sister of Helen Brazil of Mansfield and the late Carl Cardinute, Joseph Cardinute, Jenny Thomas and Mary Cataloni. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews.
Her funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Friday, March 26th at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visitation will be held prior to the services on Friday morning from 9:30-10:30 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
