Francis Gerald Bartkus, 79 of Worcester, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 20, 2021, surrounded by his loving family at UMASS Memorial Medical Center University Campus.
Frank is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jeanne A. (Holt) Bartkus; two sons, Steven F. Bartkus of Petaluma, CA, David C. Bartkus of Worcester and a Daughter, Elizabeth A. (Bartkus) Quinn and her husband Robert D. Quinn of Worcester; four grandchildren, Steven, Hannah, Brendan and Theodore; One Brother, John A. Bartkus and his wife Jennifer; sister-in-law Beverly R. Gosselin; niece Sherry A. Gosselin; other nieces and nephews. One Brother, Richard J. Bartkus, predeceased him. Frank was born in Worcester, son of the late Frank G. and Marjorie V. (Comerford) Bartkus. He graduated from Commerce High School and attended Worcester Junior College.
He was employed by The George Meyer Company in West Boylston as a machinist for 20 years, later retiring from Norton Saint Gobain in Northborough and Worcester, MA as an experimental machinist for over 20 years.
He was a long time member of St. Catherine of Sweden Church. He was greatly involved with Boy Scout Troop 63 alongside his son at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Worcester, serving as their cook at church dinners and many camping trips to Treasure Valley. Frank loved cooking, one of his specialties being spaghetti, sausage and meatballs
Frank had many hobbies he took pleasure in. His favorite was gardening, planting a yearly vegetable garden, always including his children and grandchildren. He also loved Lionel model trains. Most of all Frank delighted in going on summer vacations along the coast of Maine and North Conway, NH with his family. He took great pride in his grandchildren whom he loved with all his heart.
Calling hours for Frank will be on Thursday, March 25th, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester. The Service will immediately follow the calling hour. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester, MA. Masks must be worn and all current covid protocols must be followed. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
