Bill Edward Whitaker, 95, of Anderson passed away on March 17, 2021 at Community Hospital Anderson.
He was born on July 9, 1925 in South Bend, Indiana, to Thomas Edward LaFountain and Lulabelle (Smith) Whitaker. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and served on the USS Louisville. He was employed for over 30 years at East Side Jersey Dairy (Prairie Farms) as a route salesman and he volunteer for over 25 years at Community Hospital in Anderson.
He was a member of Bethany Christian Church and Solar Masonic Lodge. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame fan. He truly loved his three grandsons and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Willametta (Runyan) Whitaker of Anderson whom he married on July 3, 1948 in Elwood on her parent's farm; two daughters, Julie (Max) Gentry and Connie (Bill) Reding all of Anderson; three grandsons, Jay (Maria) Gentry, Mark (Amy) Gentry and Jonathan (Toni) Reding; four great-grandchildren, Allison and Mallory Gentry, Alexander Gentry, and Levi Reding; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Edward LaFountain, who passed away trying to save his 3 year old son, Bill; his mother, Lulabelle (husband, Eldon) Whitaker, and two sisters, Joyce Markle and Bette Kollar.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery with Bob Bell officiating. There will be military rites conducted at the cemetery.
