Larry Merritt was born in Newark, New Jersey on August 12, 1937 to the late Wesley and Mary (Harper) Merritt. Larry was the eldest of his three siblings, Barbara Dupree of Virginia, Ronald Merritt of New Jersey, and Patricia Merritt of Delaware. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Armed Services where he served 20 years in the United States Navy. After retiring from the Navy, Larry worked 20+ years for Inner-City (a subsidiary of Polaroid). He married his beloved wife Priscilla Bonita Merritt (Deceased), on October 18, 1957.
Together, they lived and raised nine children and two grandchildren in Cathedral Housing Projects, in Boston, MA. Larry took pride in serving his country and providing for his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband and family man, with a spirited soul who brought laughter to so many in his typical Mr. Merritt way. He enjoyed shooting dice and playing blackjack with the fellas. He cherished his dogs Sheba, Champ and Fuji and took great pride in his cars, especially his fleet of Cadillacs.
Prior to his passing, Larry lived with his grandson Larry L. Merritt, his wife Stephanie Monteiro-Merritt and their three children in Brockton, MA.
Larry is survived by his children, Patricia (Merritt) Garcia of New Hampshire, Beverly Merritt, Linda (Merritt) Pierre, Ronald Merritt, Barbara (Merritt) Duret, Wesley Merritt (Deceased), Cathleen Merritt, Mary Merritt, and Priscilla Merritt, all of Boston; Sisters Barbara Dupree and Patricia Merritt, and Brother Ronald Merritt; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. His Sisters-in-law, the late Catherine (Sims) Jennings, the late Frances (Sims) Carrington, the late Ada (Sims) Williams, and the late Brenda (Croom) Merritt; and Brothers-in-law, the late Garland Sims, and the late David Dupree; and a host of extended family and friends.
