Obituary

William (Bill) D. Crandall, died unexpectedly on March 15th after several years of failing health. Bill was a “townie” born in Franklin on June 2, 1944, the son of Matilda (Tillie) and Lloyd Crandall and brother of Nancy J Rappa of Franklin.

Bill attended the local public schools and graduated from Franklin High in 1962. He enlisted in the Army and served in Germany and Japan. After an honorary discharge he returned to Franklin and worked for the Town of Franklin for many years as a custodian in various elementary schools.

Bill was an archeology enthusiast and delighted in reading and talking about ancient civilizations, their habits, customs, and their structures. Early on he and a friend had found a plot of land with unusual mounds and stone formations and they tried very hard to get the area identified as a potential historical site. It was his hobby and he was always very happy to share the information with anyone who showed an interest.

Bill enjoyed spending holidays with his sister and was always interested in the comings and goings of his nieces, Lori, Jill, Jodi, Kristen, and his nephew Rob. There are no calling hours and internment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Tuesday, March 23rd at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Friends of Franklin, 50 Corbin Street, Franklin, MA 02038.
