Carlos Rocha Borges
LOWELL Carlos Rocha Borges, 77, of Lowell, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2021, after a brief illness with his family at his side. He was the husband of the late Maria (Meneses) Borges who died in 2019.
He was born on July 15, 1943 in Terceira, Azores, Portugal and was the son of the late Sebastiao Da Rocha Borges and the late Ilda Anparo (Rocha) Borges. He was raised in Terceira where he completed the 'Quarta Classe'.
In the summer of 1974, he emigrated to the United States with his wife, settling in Lowell’s Back Central Street neighborhood where he was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and longtime member of the Portuguese American Civic League 'The Reds Club'. He was a devoted Benfica fan and enjoyed watching his favorite team play.
He worked for Joan Fabrics as machine operator for many years before his retirement as a finish operator. Carlos and his late wife, Maria, were the caregivers of their son, Roberto, who is 46 has cerebral palsy.
In addition, he is survived by his only son, Roberto Rocha Borges; his sister, Maria Leandro and her husband, Valquiro, of Tewksbury and their family; his sister, Maria Lurdes Rocha Borges; his brother, Jose Rocha Borges; a brother in law, Josezinho and Fatima Meneses of Terceira, Azores, Portugal; as well as many nieces and nephews including Frank Leandro and his girlfriend Krystina Bonilla of Tewksbury, and Nuno Meneses and his girlfriend Patricia Cetano of Lowell.
He was predeceased by his brother, the late Sebastiao Avilar Da Rocha Borges; his brother, Lorenzo Rocha Borges
You are invited to his visitation on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, from 10 a.m.-12 non at the MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. His private funeral Mass will take place at St. Anthony’s Church at 1 p.m. His burial will be held privately.
