Obituary

Monica Schlegel, of Silver Strand Beach, Oxnard, California was granted her angel wings on Friday, March 5, 2021. She was 51 years old. Monica was born in Manhasset, New York on August 28, 1969 to Lina (Cantos) Schlegel and the late Curtis Schlegel .
Monica is survived by her beloved Mother Lina Schlegel of Silver Strand Beach, her devoted Aunts and Uncles, Giacomo and Marcela Cantos, Horacio and Yolanda Cantos, Chatty and Gaston Gomez; her loving cousins Mariela (Eldon), Lina, Jorge(Leuris ), Gina, Cesar (Judith), Chatty, Jimmy (Darlene), Barbara (William), Patricio (Carla), Hubert, Natasha (Alfonso), Ana Bolena (Dirk), Orazio (Patty) Paola (Pablo), Aldo (Fabiana) Audrey (Peter), Ingrid (Mauricio), Gianpiero (Ma. Jose) Edu, Giacomo (Daniela), Cesar A. (Karla), Marcelo; her adoring God Children, JohnPaul Callan (Chrissy) and Annika Degenna; Her many adoring nieces and nephews, and her many great nieces, nephews and friends all over the world. She is predeceased by her beloved grandparents, Cesar A. Cantos Pazmino and Lina Aliatis de Cantos, loving aunts and uncles, Rosa Cantos de Callan, Patricio Baca, and cousins Magdalena Cantos de Cruz and Lino Cantos
Monica was a loving daughter, niece, cousin, aunt and friend to many and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Monica was a kind and gentle heart with a beautiful smile that she loved to share with everyone she met. Monica was blessed to have grown up at the beach in a wonderful natural area, she loved all types of wildlife and was especially caring to her own pet dogs and cats, Shorty, Handsome, Pita, Momo and any other stray that happened along. She had an intense love to work with crafts and to teach her nieces and nephews how to create new masterpieces. Monica loved to cook the family her amazing Grilled Tri Tip…shhh secret recipe. Monica loved learning and was always excited to talk about a new discovery with all of her family whether it was a new series on Netflix or how to hike Machu Picchu. Monica was like a kid amongst her nieces and nephews who all thought she was the coolest aunt. Monica got to experience living in Hawaii, traveling to Ecuador many summers and across the United States, she also visited Spain and Italy and enjoyed meeting new people wherever she went. Monica was Daddy’s little girl and Mama’s best friend.Always in our hearts.

Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home. A memorial mass will be determined at a later date.
