George J. "Pudgie" O'Connor, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 87 years of age.
Pudgie was born in Boston on June 10, 1933, a son of the late Patrick H. O'Connor and Cecelia (Flavin) O'Connor. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School. While growing up in Charlestown, Pudgie found interest in boxing and as an amatuer boxer he was crowned 3 times as New England Middleweight Champion. Pudgie worked on the Boston waterfront as a Longshoreman and was a proud member of the International Longshoreman's Association Local # 799 for over 35 years. He was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed walking around Charlestown and swimming in his spare time.
Pudgie is the beloved husband of the late Virginia T. "Chubby" (Cullen) O'Connor. He is the devoted father of Patricia Hubbard and her husband Duane, Annemarie "Duey" O'Connor, George J. O'Connor Jr. and his wife Carol, William "Willie" O'Connor and Christopher O'Connor. He is the loving Papa to Katie, Kevin and Olivia. He is the beloved brother of the late Agnes Doherty, Joan Lavallee, William O'Connor, Patrick O'Connor, John O'Connor, Richard O'Connor, Edward O'Connor, Paul O'Connor and Hubert O'Connor. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
Pudgie's Funeral Services and burial will be private.
