Barbara A. (Capone) Centrella passed away in the company of her loving family at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center of Burlington on Saturday night. She was 80. Born in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Anthony J. and Helen (Mullane) Capone. A Medford resident for most of her life, Barbara was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Barbara loved the sun. From her youngest years at Nantasket Beach or spending her winters with Mario in Citrus Park, Florida during their retirement, Barbara looked forward to sharing happy times with family and friends. Her charismatic personality drew people close to her. Barbara looked forward to cooking delicious meals for her family, friends and neighbors. She generously shared her talent for crafts and ceramics. She was renowned for painting and decorating pillowcases for newborns, commemorating the latest members of her or a friend’s family. And it was the young ones she adored the most, never missing an opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren at home or bringing them along for a golf cart ride in Florida. Barbara was a delightful woman who will be deeply missed by those who knew her.
The beloved wife of Mario Centrella, Barbara was a devoted mother to Anthony Centrella and Richard Centrella, both of Medford. She was a loving grandmother to Hailee, Alexandra, Anthony, Christian and Ashton. The dear former mother-in-law of Kirsten Centrella, she was a dear sister of John "Jack" Capone and Carolyn Mullane Saggese. Barbara is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
