Joan Frances (Maguire) Sutherby-Pye, 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Ledgewood Manor Nursing Home in Windham, ME after a long period of declining health. She was the widow of the late Harold Pye and the late Richard F. (Dick) Sutherby.
She was born in the Waverly Village section of Belmont and was a daughter of the late Henry and Catherine (Monaghan) Maguire. She was raised in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School.
After marrying Dick, she lived in Tewksbury where she raised their family. After the loss of her first marriage, she remarried to Harold and moved to Maine. She was a very talented still life painter and quilter, winning many blue ribbons at the Annual Fryeburg Fair. She was a staple at the Friday Night Bingo at St. William's Church and loved to play cribbage at the Tewksbury Senior Center.
She leaves five children, Thomas Sutherby of Dixmont, ME, Susan Tuck of Bridgton, ME, Damin Sutherby and his wife, Deborah of Berwick, ME, Margaret Mary Masker and her husband, David of Troy, IL, and JoAnn Harmon of Bridgton, ME; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Walsh of Belmont, Karin Joyce of Arlington; numerous nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by her siblings, Thomas Maguire, Catherine Pye, Patricia Loftus, Richard Maguire and Robert Maguire.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to The Alzheimer Center at Brigham and Women's Hospital, 75 Francis Street, Boston, MA 02215, will be appreciated.
While following social distancing guidelines and wearing a mask, all are welcome to attend her visiting hours on Saturday, March 13, from 9 a.m. - 12 noon at the Tewksbury Funeral Home, 1 Dewey Street, Tewksbury Center, 978-851-2061.
On Saturday, March 13, her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main Street, Tewksbury. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury.
