John E. Lilly, 59, lifelong Lowell resident, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
He was born on February 21, 1962 in Lowell and was a son of the late Cecil Ray Lilly and the late Madeline (Paquin) Lilly. He was raised in Lowell and graduated from Greater Lowell Voke. He then joined the United States Air Force for a short time.
John was an avid sports fan and often enjoyed trying his luck with scratch tickets. He also enjoyed collecting watches. He mostly kept to himself and enjoyed his home life. John worked in the dye room with Prince Packaging for many years before working in the plumbing field until illness forced his early retirement.
He is survived by his siblings, Donna Burke and her husband, James of Lowell, David Lilly of New Hampshire, Marc Lilly and his wife, Mindee of St. Augustine, FL, Nancy Canelas and her husband, Juan of Nashua, NH, Julie Couillard of New Hampshire, Scott Minton of New Hampshire, Brenda Torrigan and her husband, Zaven of Lowell, Rayleen Caggiano and her husband, Nicholas of Palm Coast, FL. He is also survived by his aunt, Pauline Duffy of Dracut; his uncle, John R. Lilly and his wife, Muriel of Utah; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins and friends.
He was also the stepson of the late Doreen Lilly, brother of the late Michael Lilly and many other family members who have predeceased him.
While following social distancing guidelines and wearing a mask, all are welcome to attend his calling hours on Friday, March 12, 2021 from 1-3 p.m. with a prayer service at 3 p.m. at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA 978-458-6816. Burial will take place privately at St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford.
