Franklin A. Eccleston, 67, of New Bedford passed away Wednesday March 3, 2021. He was the husband of Diane (Morse) Eccleston.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Norman Eccleston and Barbara (Allen) Sargent and stepson of the late William Sargent, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Frank was formerly employed as a Detective Sergeant with the New Bedford Police Department for 30 years until his retirement. He had also previously worked for the U.S. Postal Service.
During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He later served in the Army Reserves. He was a member of the Massachusetts Police Association, the New Bedford Police Association, and the Patriot Guard Riders.
He is survived by his wife Diane; his daughter, Melissa Eccleston; his siblings, Janet Smith and her wife Shanna and Norman Sargent and his wife Jeana; his nephew, Michael Sargent; his mother-in-law, Van Morse; his sisters-in-law, Donna Divona and her husband Frank, and Deborah Mucillo and her husband Steven; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his niece and Goddaughter, Meghan Sargent.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday March 10, 2021 at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday March 9, 2021 from 4-7 PM.
