Margaret “Maggi” Marie (Baker) Wable, age 79, of Anderson IN, passed away peacefully after a sudden illness on Friday, March 5, 2021, at her daughter’s residence in Frankton, IN. She was born on January 12, 1942 in Anderson, IN, the daughter of the late Major and Doris (Rickard) Baker.
Maggi was preceded in death by her sometime husband Donald Keith Wable, brother Marion “Roger” Baker, and sister Mary Martha (Baker) Wiley. Survivors include her daughter, Kathy (Wable) Zach and son-in-law James “Jay” Zach II. Grandsons: Austin Zach, Stephen Maxwell, Quentin Zach, and James “Liam” Zach III. She was known as “Auntie” to a whole slew of nieces and nephews: Cheryl Wiley, Teresa (Baker) Sayre and husband Brad Sayre, Philip Campbell and wife Wendy Campbell, Earon (Sullivan) Jamison, and many, many great and great-great nieces and nephews (too many to name as it would cost a fortune).
To say Maggi was “involved” in her community is an understatement. The past few years she was passionate about helping other seniors (yes, you read that right!) in the Madison County area. Since her retirement, she was one of the main coordinators for the Senior Link program, a collaboration between the Anderson Police Department, Madison Co Sheriff’s Department and United Way of Madison County. She also worked with the Chesterfield Senior outreach program and loved “calling her people” every week to check up on them and see if they were in need of support. She was a true-blue Democrat and enjoyed campaigning for Mayor Tom Broderick, Jr. and Sheriff Scott Mellinger. They were certainly lucky to have such a dedicated, fiery red-head on their side.
Prior to her “retirement” adventures, she worked for Stanley Best Access (formerly Best Lock) for over 35 years as an auditor. She was so loved by the company and her co-workers that she was asked to stay well past retirement age! Above all though, she was an amazing Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Auntie. Calling her the matriarch of the family was an understatement, she cared deeply and fiercely for her family & friends and was their #1 defender. Whether you were a friend in need, wayward family member, or stray animal, her unconditional love and support had no boundaries. A quote from Mother Teresa characterized Maggi’s outlook on life, as anyone that met her will agree, “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.”
Viewing will be held at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service in Anderson, IN on Wednesday, March 10th from 3pm-7pm. Funeral service will be held at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service on Thursday, March 11th at 2pm. There will be no burial, Maggi requested her ashes be spread someplace warm and sunny, where the only mention of salt refers to the ocean and not the roads.
Special thanks to Meghan Lewis at the National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center in Ohio for going above and beyond to help coordinate postmortem arrangements between the Center and the funeral home.
