Alexander “Alec” Howland Howes died February 28th at home in Kingston, Mass of complications from colon cancer.
Born in Washington, DC on February 9, 1952, Alec was the beloved son of the late Barbara “Polly” Benson Howes, and the late Davis Crowell Howes. He was raised in South Dartmouth and Taunton, MA, and later moved to the South Shore in 1984.
Alec found his roots in Plymouth, and was known affectionately as the “Mayor of Plymouth”. A fixture around town, Alec enjoyed daily walks, shopping at Benny’s, and keeping up with local happenings. At the workshop at Road to Responsibility, Alec was remembered for his dedication to his work, camaraderie and sense of humor. Over the years, he also worked at several area markets, restaurants and at L. Knife & Sons. Alec loved to visit new places, and in recent years enjoyed travel to the White Mountains, Florida, and California with his beloved caregiver, Gail Loud.
He is survived by siblings, Betts Howes Murray (Wisner) and Timothy Howes (Jane). He is also survived by his nieces, Barbara “Polly” Murray, Alexandra “Ally” Howes, and nephews, Francis Murray and Davis Howes.
The family would like to thank Community Systems, Road to Responsibility, South Shore Mental Health, and his beloved caregivers and friends - Gail Loud, Bianca Papp, Jim Sullivan and the many caring individuals who brought much joy to Alec’s life.

A memorial service celebrating Alec’s life will take place at a later date.
