Mary A. "Mae" (O'Brien) Vanasse, 84, of Dartmouth passed away peacefully on Friday, February 26, 2021.
She was the wife of the late Oliva R. Vanasse for 62 years.
Born on Bell Island, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Eric and Elfreida (Galway) O'Brien, she lived in New Bedford most of her life before moving to Dartmouth in 1995.
Mary was a devout catholic who regularly attended Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. She was a member of the Holy Name Women's Guild, the Holy Name Couples Club, and the West Roxbury Irish Social Club. She loved to crochet and knit, and loved all animals. She was very proud of her Newfoundland heritage.
Survivors include her two sons, David Vanasse and Eric Vanasse and his wife Nancy, all of Dartmouth; her siblings, Aleston O'Brien, Clarence O'Brien, Leo O'Brien, Margie Doiron, Marion Bursey, and Vonnie Hutchcraft.
She is predeceased by her husband; and her brothers Eric and Vincent O'Brien.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 3rd at 9:00 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday March 2nd from 5-7 PM at Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
