WESTBOROUGH: Sture “Steve” Reino Blom, 91, died peacefully on Monday, February 15, 2021 at Beaumont Rehabilitation in Westborough following a period of declining health.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 18, 1929, the son of the late Sture Edwin Blom and Siami Maria (Niittymaki) Blom.
Sture was the beloved husband of the late Phyllis C. (Dragon) Blom who died on October 4, 1990 and father of the late Erik Blom who died on September 20, 2007.
He was the devoted father of Karen Blom and her husband Bruce Lessels of Buckland, Jeffrey Blom and his wife Carolyn Rasta of Hull, and Kristin (Blom) Snow and her husband Alan Snow of Ashland. Cherished grandfather of Ashley and Andrew Blom, Abigail and Hannah Lessels, Alexandra and Sierra Blom, and Logan and Toby Snow.
Sture had been a resident of Wayland for over 52 years before moving to Westborough several years ago. He spent his formative years in Brooklyn, NY and Cambridge, MA.
He graduated as an Arista Member from Brooklyn Technical High School and received his Bachelors and Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. Sture had a long and distinguished career as an Electrical Engineer with BAIRD Corporation, LFE Corporation, Electroscan, Thermetics, Inc/Thermo Cardiosystems, Inc., and Airborne Research Associates.
He was a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Society, Eta Kappa Nu Honor Society of the Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the Nutmeg Soaring Association, and the Soaring Society of America. His interests and hobbies included painting, hiking, skiing, family camping trips, gliding, carpentry, reading, and home improvement projects. Private family services will be held due to current COVID-19 restrictions.
