WAYLAND: It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our loving Mother, Mary Louise (Mason) Zizza. Mary passed away unexpectedly on February 11, 2021 at the age of 82.
She is survived by her five sons, Steven, Michael, John, Christopher and Eric, along with eight grandchildren. She was recently preceded in death by her husband, John Anthony Zizza, with whom she was married for over 60 years.
Mary was born on March 28, 1938 in Cambridge. She was the daughter of Mary E. (Caskin) & Nicholas J. Mason. She graduated from Boston University in 1959 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Education in a class with less than 20 women. Her mother Mary was a widower at an early age and needed to work numerous jobs to afford Our Mother this opportunity. It was her desire for her daughter to be independent. After graduating, Mary became a teacher and later in life worked at the Fire Department in Wayland, Massachusetts, where her family resided for over 50 years.
Mary was the most kind, generous and caring woman anyone met. She had countless close friends who she enjoyed laughing and smiling with immensely. Her laugh would never get unnoticed by anyone that was around her. Over the last many decades, get togethers with her friends at Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod were on the top of her list of how to spend her time. However, first and foremost, Mary’s passions in life were dedicated to her family. She took immense pride and devotion in the raising of her five sons. Her love for us was unmeasurable. In good times when any of us were happy, Our Mother was happy. In bad times, when we felt sorrow and pain, she felt that same pain and Our Mother would comfort, care and worry for each of us until that suffering was gone. We were her world. Mary raised five boys into self- sufficient, successful and moral-minded men. Her virtues spread to each of us. We believe Our Mother will rest in peace knowing she overwhelmingly succeeded in her passion.
Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew her and loved her. She will never be forgotten.
At the request of her family, visitations will be private. Family and friends are invited to go directly to her Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, February 22, 2021 at 11:00 o’clock at Good Shepherd Parish at ST ANN CHURCH, 134 Cochituate Road (Rt. 27), Wayland.
Interment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
