Pearl was born in Point Hill, St. Catherine, Jamaica on June 4th 1928 to Reginald and Wilhel Cameron. After a short stint as a teacher, she studied nursing and subsequently worked as a district nurse from 1954, the year of her marriage to Frank Rowe. In 1960 she arrived in New York, U.S., on an invitation to work with the World Health Organization and continued to work as a nurse and as an instructor of nurses for various organizations over the next 31 years.
In 1992 she married Vitolis (John) Smith from New Longsville, Clarendon, Jamaica and lived there a number of years with annual visits back to the US. In recent years she lived with her daughter Angela in Wellesley and West Roxbury.
Pearl will be remembered for her generous hospitality, her kind encouragement and sound words of advice. Most important to her, however, was her faith in Jehovah God and her desire to see her family and friends develop and maintain a strong relationship with him.
