Obituary

John H. Erskine II,80, of Manchester, died March 19th, in Catholic Medical Center, after a long illness.

He was born on April 21, 1925 and was the son of Guy and Marguerite(Dodge) Erskine. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester.

Mr. Erskine served in the US Army in WWII in the Phillipines as an MP. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of sergeant.

In 1949 he received his BA in Business Administration from the University of NH. He worked for many years for the State of NH in the Department of Employment Security and retired in 1986 as Director of the Employment Security Bureau with over 30 years of service. He served with the State Department of New Hampshire, for the American Legion on the Employment and Economic Committee for over 20 years.Mr. Erskine was a member and past Commander of the American Legion Post 79.

He was a lifelong avid stamp collector and fisherman, and he enjoyed both during his retirement. He will be dearly missed by his wife, family and friends.

Family members include his wife of 56 years Janet(Vincent) Erskine, of Manchester; a daughter, Marie Ranfos, of Goffstown; 3 sons, James Erskine, of Grafton, MA, Michael Erskine, of Williamsburg, VA, Mark Erskine, of Weare, NH; 13 grandchildren, 2 brothers, Robert Erskine, of Biloxi MS, Richard Erskine, of Bellevue, WA; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter Joanne Tenzar in 2002, and a sister Phyllis in 1951.

A funeral service was held on March 24, 2006 in Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester.
