Michael A. Abate, Sr., 70, of Tiverton, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Delia J. (Reposa), they shared 50 years of marriage.
Mr. Abate was born in Fall River and brought up in Little Compton. He was the son of the late Salvatore and Dorothy (King) Abate. He had resided in Westport for 31 years before relocating to Tiverton. Mr. Abate worked all his life in the seafood and Metal Recycling Industries, continuing the third generation of recycling working with his son Eric at A&E Metals for the last 30 years. He was an avid Red Sox fan. Mr. Abate enjoyed cooking for his family, boating and bird watching. Most of all, he loved traveling with his granddaughters.
Survivors along with his wife include his 2 sons: Michael A. Abate, Jr. of New Bedford and Eric J. Abate and his wife Amy of Westport; 2 brothers: John Abate and his wife Ivy of Little Compton and James Abate of Middletown; 2 sisters: Christine Clodfelter and her husband Michael of SC and Linda Carvalho of ME; 3 granddaughters: Ashley Turner, Amber Abate and Erica Abate; along with many nieces and nephews.
The Family wishes to extend their gratitude to the entire staff and hospice team at Charlton Memorial Hospital for the compassionate care they gave to Mr. Abate.
