Jean Elizabeth Franta, 96, of Maplewood, MN, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2021. Born August 22, 1924, in Saint Paul, Jean was adopted at age three by her uncle, George Richter, and his wife Naomi Florence nee Murray. They loved her as their own. She joined the Cadet Nursing Corps during WWII and achieved her RN. After the war, she married Francis Franta, Jr, love of her life, on June 19, 1948. She enjoyed music, travel, camping, sewing, and laughter, all shared with family and good friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Francis, son Paul, and granddaughter Michelle.
She is survived by loving son Mark (Patricia Schlief), Lakeland, MN; grandson Will Franta, Minneapolis; daughter MaryAnn (Jim) Moenck, Dresser, WI; step-grandchildren James and Joe (Julie) Moenck, step great- and great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Laura Franta of Lake Hallie, WI; sister-in-law Barbara Marrone of Danville, CA, and dear nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to staff at Ecumen Hospice, Seasons at Maplewood, and Home Instead Senior Care for their support of Jean and her family. Mass of Christian Burial at Church of St. Peter, 2600 N. Margaret St., North St. Paul on Friday, February 19 at 12 noon followed by Burial at St Mary’s Cemetery. No visitation, please wear a mask, and do sign the guest book.
