Ana Alers Font, 91, of New Bedford passed away Tuesday February 9, 2021 after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Jorge Font.
Born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Mario Pio Alers and Jovita (Ferrer) Alers, she lived in Brooklyn, New York before moving to New Bedford in 1973.
Ana was a restaurant entrepreneur who owned and operated several restaurants and grocery stores in New York and New Bedford. She was also worked at the former Frances P. Memorial Hospital and the Blue Ribbon Laundry in New Bedford.
She was a member of the former Regina Pacis Center. Active in her community, she was well-known for assisting new immigrants with housing and employment opportunities.
She is survived by three children, Jose Tirado, Jacqueline Ramos, and Robert Badillo; two sisters, Josefina Alers and Catalina Alers; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, including her eldest granddaughter, Deanna Kelly, who so diligently and effortlessly looked over her grandmother for the last years of her most delicate life.
She was the mother of the late Yolanda Font, and sister of the late Rosa Maria Alers, Gil Alers, Pablo Alers, Santa Alers, Maximino Alers, and Elisa Alers.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday February 17, 2021 at 10:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery.
