FALL RIVER - Joseph S. Akers, age 89, passed away on February 10, 2021 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Cross) Akers. Born in Wytheville, VA, he was the son of the late Robert R. and Effie Mae (Adams) Akers. Joseph was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War, having served on the U.S.S. IRWIN & the U.S.S. ALBERT T. HARRIS.
Prior to retiring, Joseph worked as a Colorist for the local Textile Mfg. companies. He was an avid fisherman and lobsterman, and after retiring, he liked to travel with his wife around the country, visiting family and friends.
Joseph is survived by his daughter Christine Correia (husband Jay) of Norton; 2 grandchildren: Brendan L. Batchelder and Elysia Batchelder; his great grandson: Matthew Mulherin and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Dorothy “Dot” Hulin, Robert “Bud” Akers, Eva Shupe, Donald Akers, and Noma Albert,
