Mary Jo Hasty Gibbs, 91, of Ty Ty departed this life and entered heaven on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2021, at First Baptist Church Ty Ty with the Rev. Rodney Owens and the Rev. Shep Johnson officiating. Mrs. Gibbs will be laid to rest at First Baptist Church Ty Ty Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 12, 2021, at First Baptist Church Ty Ty from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service. COVID-19 guidelines will be followed during the visitation and the funeral service.
Mrs. Gibbs’ grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.
She was the second of seven children, born on September 25, 1929, in Worth County to the late Joseph Edward and Macy Verlyn (Lawhorne) Hasty. In addition to her parents, Mary Jo was also preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Glen C. Gibbs; brothers, Aubrey Gene Hasty, Maxie Darrell Hasty, Gerald Luke Hasty and Donnie Edward Hasty.
Mary Jo graduated from Sumner High School and went on to attend Norman College. In addition to being a farmer’s wife and mother, she was an educator that touched many lives, working in Worth and Tift Counties. Prior to her illness, she was an active member of First Baptist Church Ty Ty. She was also a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Gibbs is survived by her four children and their families, Gary (Teresa) Gibbs of Jesup, Peggy (Greg) Crumley of Ty Ty, Jane (Rodney) Bennett of Ty Ty and Stacy (Luther) Black of Ty Ty; grandchildren, James (Calysta) Dent of Jesup, Mary Crumley Cox (Nathan) of Acworth, Sy (Heather) Crumley of Ty Ty, Cole (Anna Kate) Bennett of Calhoun, Summer Bennett of Tifton, Drew (Kaela) Jones of Tifton and Macy Jones (Seth) Thorne of Ty Ty; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Jada Dent, Alex and Lucas Cox and Jo Leigh Crumley; sisters, Bobbie Hasty Summers of Tifton and Barbara Hasty Brannen of Monticello, Arkansas; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Gibbs’ family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Mrs. Gibbs’ caregivers, Christine Williams, Lenora Jackson, Teresa Anderson and Brenda Walker, for their exemplary care of Mrs. Gibbs.
